VBS Camp EDGE

This week has been Vacation Bible School at AUMC. We are camping at Camp EDGE
Experience and Discover God Everywhere. I’m in charge of crafts this year. This week we have decorated visors, done scratch art stars, colored bookmarks, passed out bugs and decorated bug boxes. Tomorrow is the final day and we are going to do glue/sand foot prints. Click here to see the slide show. Hope everyone has enjoyed it as much as we have.
It has been a great week ;~)

1 jar spaghetti sauce
1 can tomato sauce
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Place cooked spaghetti noodles in a 9x13 pan. Brown ground beef and onion. Season to taste. Add sauces to meat & onion and heat through. Spoon evenly over noodles. Top with cheddar cheese. Bake 15 minutes on 250 degrees or until heated though. Let sit for 10 minutes before serving.

Slip N Slide

While our new AC was being installed, I took the kids to East Texas to visit my in-laws, better known as Meme and Pobby. To help pass the time, we got the kids a Slip N Slide. I remember these from when I was a kid. It is same toy, with some minor improvements, but it was a big hit with the Bailey and Jack!

Apple Of My Eye

This is what my preschool class made for Father's Day this year. Did apple prints in red and finger prints in green to make the leaf and worm. I thought they turned out really cute.

All Smiles

Posting some smiles to help brighten my day. I'm starting to wondering if bad things really do happen in 3s. The passing of my grandfather, Christian's ER visit as a result of a Brown Recluse spider bite and now my AC is out.

Paper Airplanes

“Mom, come take a picture of me and my airplane for the blog. Then write ‘Look at the airplane Bailey made all by herself. Isn’t it COOL!’" said Bailey yesterday. Do you think I’m rubbing off on her?!?

Stain Stick Spot Checkers

I have been using Spray 'N Wash with Resolve Power Stain Stick for a while now and can’t say enough great things about this product. I just leave one of these stain sticks in each bathroom. If you have a stain, you just rub with the stain stick and throw it in the hamper. Specially formulated so you can treat stains when they happen, and then wash later—up to a week later! I’m training my kids to pretreat their own stains. They both love using the stain stick and are getting to be quite the spot checkers. And my husband, well, that's another story ;~)

Father's Day Possibilities

Father’s Day is next weekend and I have been looking for something cute to do with the kids for Christian. Here are a few possibilities.
This cute shirt idea was sent to me in an email from Michaels.

Family Fun had this very easy “D A D” cake. I Love You Daddy Poem from Kaboose.
Wise Guy Cupcake from
Disney Family Entertainment looks deliciously adorable.
Here is the card we made for Christian last year.
Danielle's Place has lots of cute ideas too.

Brown Recluse Spiders

As some of you know, Christian ended up in the emergency room with an antibiotic IV drip as a result of what is thought to be a Brown Recluse Spider bite. We think that he got bitten at the Mills Branch pool here in Kingwood. The bite is located on his right arm just above the elbow. I didn’t take any pictures, but it is the grossest thing I have ever seen. The sight of his bite is about the size of a tennis ball. If you are brave enough, click here to see brown recluse spider bites. We are thankful that neither of the kids got bit, but I am a little leery about taken them back to the pool.

Daisy Scout

This year Bailey joined Girl Scouts and enjoyed it very much. She was part of Daisy Troop 9376. They meet at the club house in our neighborhood. Ms. DeAnna was her leader and Ms. Amy was her co-leader. All of the girls went to Kindergarten at HHE. For the End of the Year Party, the girls choose Chuck E. Cheese’s. I was the photographer for the event and made each girl a collage picture. Here is Bailey’s.

Jack is a big fan of Chuck E. Cheese’s and I was able to bring him too!

Banana Cake

Do you ever find yourself with one banana that is too ripe to eat? Don’t throw it away, put it in a zip lock and stick it in the freezer. When you get three or four of these ripe bananas, you have enough to turn them into banana cake.

Banana Cake
1 cup margarine
3 cups sugar
4 eggs
2 cups mashed bananas (thawed if froze)
3 cups sifted flour
1 cup sour milk
2 teaspoon soda
1/2 teaspoon Salt

Cream margarine, add sugar then eggs, mashed bananas and add to creamed mixture. Sift flour soda, salt & add sour milk. (for sour milk add a couple teaspoon of vinegar to milk.) Bake at 350 in a 9x13 pan greased & floured for about 70 minutes. Frost with Cream Cheese Icing and enjoy!

Goin' Green

Since Earth Day, Bailey has been on the recycling band wagon. Before we moved to Houston, I did recycle. Not sure why it is harder here, but it is. It took forever to get our recycle bin from Waste Management. They had me marked down as having already received it and we never got it. So, after a month of waiting, the Barger’s are finally “officially” recycling.
A fun Earth Day DVD is Schoolhouse Rock: Earth. It is the same Schoolhouse Rock that I remember as a child, but with some new songs and characters. Click here to see a short video clip.

Moocho Fun Friday

Yesterday, Kristi and I took the kids to Chick-fil-A for Moocho Fun Friday. The kids played in the play area, had fun meeting the Cow, played a game for free stuff and ate lunch. Their favorite part is trading in their toy for an ice cream. For my two kids, it doesn’t get much better than this ;~)
