Thing 1 and Thing 2 Hunt

I made these cute Thing 1 and Thing 2 clips today and had to share.  They are just clothes pins that I colored with permanent marker and hot glued on some blue boa.  I had my class go into the hall and I hid these two in plane sight.  Let the kids come back in to find them.  The two that found my "things" got to hide them next.  I had them sit out.  Repeated this process until everyone had found a "thing" and hid them.  Last two hid them and the whole class searched.

I also plan to use these guys all of next month since our theme is Dr. Seuss.  Going to hide them every morning in my room.

Out of the World: Discover the Moon and Space Ships

 Here is my sharing board I put together for our conference next week.  I LOVED how it turned out.  This you I did a space theme.

Aliens Love Underpants Space Ships

Create alien space ships with a simple paper plate and  Q-Tip paint with liquid water colors.  I saw a version of this space ship on Pinterest.  I did my own twist and this is what I came up with!

Directions for space ship - Using a circle cutter, cut a little more than a half circle in the center of an inexpensive white paper place.   Using the same cutter, we cut out our aliens and pasted them onto the plate.  Aliens can be found in the “Downloads and Games” tab on http://www.aliensloveunderpants.com/ or create your own.  Place a thin line of white glue on the edge of the bottom half of the paper plate.  Fold over the rim of the plate  and secure with small binder clips.  These clips will help hold while the glue is drying and also serve as the feet for the space ships.  These were made up in advance.

Decorating our aliens and space crafts – First add eyes.  What alien would be complete without a few eyes!  Add several sticker and/or self stick wiggly eyes.  These are great for fine motor.  Then its time to paint!  Liquid water colors in Styrofoam egg cartons and q-tips works the best.  The kids were encourage to decorate their aliens and space crafts. 

The results were out of this world!

Doodle on the Moon – Fun, simple (and low-ink) printable activity to spark kids imagination to…. a full moon glow!  Put out large moon and let the kids doodle & put on space stickers! 

 

There’s a very big size to print for the full effect, medium size and a one page version for small doodles and journals.

Cutting/Fine Motor – Give each child their own moon to cut out to put in their journal.

 

Journals - Paste moons in their journals!  Instruct them to write their name and the date in numbers. Doodle on their moon and add some space stickers.

Alien Buddies App on the iPad 

Have the class line up in a circle with a teacher on either side with an iPad.  Select “Match” and then one of the “Listen” games.  Have the kids take turns pressing the space ship with the speaker.   Then select the correct alien based on what they heard.  Challenge the kids with the numbers up to 50 or ABCs upper and lower case.

Oh the Places You'll Go

I saw these Tall Paintings on Pinterest from GummyLump.com and thought of Dr. Seuss’ “Oh the Places You’ll Go!” We did the Tall Paintings, which consist of a half of an large plastic egg glued to a plate and then a mixture of paint and glue poured on top. Then we added the kids pictures with a craft stick and some model magic.

I LOVE how they turned out!

Easter Crosses

We did a stain glass looking cross this year. We cut a cross out of black construction paper. Put a piece of white tissue over the cross opening. Had the kids glue tissue in various colors onto the white tissue paper. I just love how they turned out.

MWF Open House

This year's WLC Open House theme was Dr. Seuss. Here is a picture of all the 4s teachers dressed as Thing 1 and Thing 2. Below is a poem and pictures from the evernt. Ms. Michelle wrote the cutest poem to direct the parents around the room. Some of the items were things we did in the past and a few new ones we found on Pinterest!WELCOME to WHO-Ville!

We had a GREAT turn out and everyone LOVED the shirts we made with the bleach pens.

Dr. Seuss Shirts

Look at the Dr. Seuss Shirts we made for WLC's Open House.

To make you will need a shirt, bleach pen and stencile.

We cut the stencils and laminated them. Had the kids trace around the edge with the fine point of the bleach pen.

The lay the second stencil over and have the kids fill in the stripes with the brush end of the bleach pen.

This is what is should look like. Let sit until you achieve your desired color and then rinse off the bleach. I took them home and put them in the washer.

One of our other classes made a Jolly Rodger for their pirate theme too! The kids LOVED these too...especially the boys!

I was worried about doing the bleach, but if you work with one kid at a time it works well. Can't wait to do Shark shirts for this summers Ocean theme.

HHE Staff Valentine's Day Gift

I gave the HHE staff a Sharpie for their Valentine's Day gift today. I attached a label that said "The PTA thinks you're 'Sharp'" on one side and the other side said "Happy Valentine's Day". They were a big hit!

Bailey's New Purple Zebra Room

For Bailey's birthday we redid her room in purple zebra. I used sheets of zebra duct tape to cover the switch plates and furniture inserts. We covered her desk chair with zebra upholstery fabric too.

Bailey's Parent Gift

Look what Bailey made a school this year for her parent gift!

So simple, yet so cute and frestive. It is just a glass ornament with Christmas colored tissue paper glued onto the outside. They tied it off with a red and green string.
I just love it!

Out of the World DAD!

Our summer fun theme is "Lost In Space" this year at AUMC. And to go along with our theme, we made aliens to give to Dad for Father's Day. Very simple mirror painting in green and then we added eyes and a mouth.

20 Minute Kite

We have been going to Mystery Monday at the library. We made a 20 Minute Kite and they were a BIG HIT! They were very easy to make and the kids ran around with them for hours. Here is Bailey with her kite.
